Auxiliary & Malefic Stars

The auxiliary and malefic stars are the 'supporting cast' beyond the fourteen main stars — the Six Auspicious (Zuo Fu, You Bi, Wen Chang, Wen Qu, Tian Kui, Tian Yue) add points to a main star, the Six Malefic (Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong, Di Jie) add turbulence, Lu Cun and Tian Ma govern the flow of wealth, and Hong Luan, Tian Xi, Tian Yao, and Xian Chi govern romance. Every one of them sits on your chart, and their job is to modify the main star: the same main star, fitted with different auxiliary and malefic stars, can read wildly different. To read a chart in full, you have to read these.

Six Auspicious Stars

Helpers, talent & nobles

The Six Auspicious Stars — Zuo Fu, You Bi, Wen Chang, Wen Qu, Tian Kui, Tian Yue — are the six most important helper stars in Zi Wei Dou Shu. They come in pairs and add points: lending the main star they sit with extra support, talent, and benefactor luck. A chart rich in paired auspicious stars is rescued in danger and helped in trouble.

Wealth & Travel Stars

Salary star & the Heavenly Horse

Lu Cun and Tian Ma are the two stars that decide wealth and movement. Lu Cun (the Salary Star) is the 'treasury of earned wealth' — steady provision, the power to save and keep; Tian Ma (the Heavenly Horse) is the travel star — motion, relocation, money in flow. Together they form 'Lu and Horse galloping' (禄马交驰), the classic make-money combination of Zi Wei Dou Shu.

Six Malefic Stars

Blade, drag, fire, void & robber

The Six Malefic Stars — Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong, Di Jie — are the six 'sha' (煞) stars of Zi Wei Dou Shu. They subtract points and add turbulence, but they are far from purely bad: a 'temple-bright' Qing Yang or Huo Xing turns malefice into authority, and Fire/Bell meeting Greedy Wolf becomes a sudden-fortune formation. The malefics test mastery — handled well they are drive and breakthrough; handled badly, injury and loss.

Peach Blossom Stars

Romance, joy & charm

The Peach Blossom Stars — Hong Luan, Tian Xi, Tian Yao, Xian Chi — are the four stars of romance, celebration, and charm. Hong Luan and Tian Xi are the 'true peach blossom': marriage and happy events, the key markers for the timing of a wedding. Tian Yao and Xian Chi are the 'side peach blossom': allure, romance, magnetism — attraction used well, tangled affairs used poorly.

How these stars modify a main star

Read the main star for the pattern first, then these for the fine balance of fortune. The same main star, fitted with different auxiliary and malefic stars, can read wildly different — the auxiliaries lift it, the malefics test it, the wealth stars move its money, the peach-blossom stars colour its love.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the auxiliary and malefic stars?

The auxiliary and malefic stars are the 'supporting' stars that sit on your chart beyond the fourteen main stars. The auxiliaries (such as the Six Auspicious — Zuo Fu, You Bi, Wen Chang, Wen Qu, Tian Kui, Tian Yue) add support to a main star; the malefics (such as the Six Malefic — Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong, Di Jie) add turbulence and testing. They do not anchor the chart, but modify the main star — the same main star with different auxiliary and malefic stars can read wildly different in fortune and strength.

Which are the Six Auspicious and the Six Malefic stars?

The Six Auspicious are: Zuo Fu, You Bi, Wen Chang, Wen Qu, Tian Kui, Tian Yue — six helper stars of assistance, talent, and benefactors. The Six Malefic are: Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong, Di Jie — six 'sha' stars of injury, delay, haste, and loss. The auspicious add points in pairs; the malefics test mastery, and handled well can even be put to use.

How do auxiliary and malefic stars differ from the 14 main stars?

The main stars (such as Zi Wei, Tian Fu, Tan Lang) are the 'leads' of the chart, defining your essence and life's core; the auxiliary and malefic stars are the 'supporting cast' — they do not set the pattern themselves, but modify, strengthen, or weaken the main star they sit with. Think of it this way: the main star is the dish, the auxiliary and malefic stars the seasoning — the same dish, sugared or spiced, tastes entirely different. You read the main star for the pattern first, then the auxiliary and malefic stars for the fine balance of fortune.

Which are the peach-blossom stars, and what is the true/side split?

There are four main peach-blossom stars: Hong Luan and Tian Xi (the true peach-blossom) and Tian Yao and Xian Chi (the side peach-blossom). The true ones rule marriage, union, and fruitful celebration, leading to family, and are key to the timing of a wedding; the side ones rule charm, allure, desire, and appeal, prizing attraction itself. For a proper marriage, read Hong Luan and Tian Xi; for charm and affairs, Tian Yao and Xian Chi.
