A good order: start with Miao Wang Li Xian (knowing how strong a star is), then San Fang Si Zheng (reading four palaces together) — these two are the foundation of static reading. Next add the Life & Body Masters and the Five Element Bureau to complete the natal structure, and finally Da Xian Liu Nian to read the chart across time. The five here are arranged in exactly that order, shallow to deep.

San Fang Si Zheng, star brightness, the Life & Body Masters, and the Five Element Bureau are particular to Zi Wei Dou Shu; the 'read luck in chapters' idea of Da Xian Liu Nian is shared with BaZi's luck cycles, though Zi Wei stacks palaces while BaZi swaps stem-branch pillars.
