Your Life Master Star (命主星) and Body Master Star (身主星) are the two 'ruling stars' of your natal chart. The Life Master is set by the earthly branch of your Self palace and colors the innate, first half of life; the Body Master is set by your birth-year branch and colors the acquired, second half — how you carry and conduct yourself. Neither is your Self-palace main star, but they run like two hidden threads through the whole keynote of your fate.
Set by the earthly BRANCH of your Self palace (命宫). It rules the innate — the keynote you are born with — and traditionally governs the first half of life.
e.g. Self palace in 子 (Zǐ) → Life Master is Tan Lang (贪狼).
Set by your BIRTH-YEAR branch (生年支). It rules the acquired — the self you shape through experience — and governs the second half of life and how you carry yourself.
